Extension

When and with what documents do I apply to extend my E-6 (Arts and Entertainment) stay?

Based on: KVisa practical reference "Stay Practice Guidelines" (체류 실무지침) (as of July 2023) · Ministry of Justice "Guide Manual for Stay Civil Applications by Status" (체류민원 자격별 안내 매뉴얼) (as of 2026.11.02)

For an E-6 extension, apply from 4 months before your stay period ends until the expiry date. If you apply before it expires, you can stay while you wait, even if the result comes late.

Just prepare these documents

The documents for an E-6 extension differ a little by sub-category (E-6-1, E-6-3, E-6-2).

  • Basic documents (application form, passport, registration card, fee)
  • Employment contract — to confirm the contract with your current workplace
  • Performance recommendation letter (employment recommendation letter) — to confirm the need for the performance or employment
  • Letter of identity guarantee — submit for E-6-2 only
  • Certificate of health insurance enrollment and loss — submit for E-6-2 only
  • Other review documents — only 1 or 2 if needed (certificate of employment, foreign employee status, withholding tax record for earned income, etc.)

Steps to apply

  1. Prepare the documents above from 4 months before expiry.
  2. Book a visit at the immigration office (출입국·외국인관서) that covers your address, or check on HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) whether the service can be done online.
  3. Submit before the expiry date. The fee for an extension is 60,000 KRW.

⚠️ Points to note

  • The review checks whether you applied before the expiry date and why the extension is needed.
  • Even if you have 4 months or more of stay left, your application is accepted and reviewed if there is a valid reason.
  • For hotel and entertainment (E-6-2), the review also checks how the employer manages its foreign entertainers.
  • Changing or adding a workplace is different from an extension. For E-6 other than E-6-2, report to the immigration office with jurisdiction within 15 days from the day the reason arises (no fee).
  • If you change workplaces and your remaining stay is shorter than the new contract period plus 1 month, you will be told to apply for an extension. If you do not extend then, you may be punished.
  • If the expiry date passes, you may become an illegal overstayer. If it has passed, get a consultation with the K-VISA AI administrative agent (행정사) (the app's visa service).

The exact documents may differ by sub-category and by immigration office. Check once more on HiKorea or at 1345 before you submit.
