ExtensionH-2

When can I apply for an H-2 (Working Visit) stay extension, and what documents do I need?

Based on: Government24 (정부24) service guides "Alien Registration," "Reissuance of Alien Registration Card" (last revised 2026.7.27.), "Application for Certificate of Visa Issuance Confirmation," "Extension of Period of Stay," "Certificate of Alien Registration Facts" (checked 2026.10.30) · Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Act (출입국관리법 시행령) (Presidential Decree No. 36728, effective 2026.10.2.) · KVisa practical reference "Stay Practice Guidelines" (as of 2023.7.) · Ministry of Justice "Visa Service Manual by Status" (as of 2026.10.19)

You must apply for an H-2 stay extension before your period of stay ends. The reference materials did not confirm exactly how many months before expiry you can apply. It is generally known that applications are accepted from 4 months before the expiry date, but please be sure to check with HiKorea (하이코리아) or 1345.

When to apply

  • You must submit the application form and documents to the Immigration Office (출입국·외국인청) (office or branch) before your period of stay ends.
  • If the expiry date passes, it may become a stay violation. In this case, we recommend consulting an administrative agent (행정사).

How to apply

  • You can apply in person, online (HiKorea), or by mail (only for residents of island areas), and you or an agent can apply.
  • The application form is the Integrated Application Form (통합신청서) (Immigration Control Form No. 34).

Documents

  • The Integrated Application Form, passport, and Alien Registration Card are generally required as the basics.
  • As an additional document for H-2 extension, if you entered on an H-2 visa as a parent or spouse of a Student (D-2) status holder, you need that D-2 holder's certificate of enrollment.
  • You need to check the full list of documents for each status on HiKorea.

Fee and processing time

  • The fee is generally 60,000 won.
  • Processing time is 15 days in total for general cases, and 60 days in total if an investigation is needed.

⚠️ Points to note

  • If an H-2 holder works outside the permitted employment purpose, a fine may be imposed, and depending on the seriousness of the violation, the stay may be denied and a departure order may be issued.
  • Approval is not guaranteed. If your situation is complicated, use the K-VISA AI administrative agent consultation.
