What is the TOPIK exam schedule and how do I register?

Based on: Ministry of Employment and Labor, Employment Permit System (EPS) 'Employment Permit System Information' (accessed 2026.10.29) · Ministry of Justice, Korea Immigration and Integration Network 'Korea Immigration and Integration Program Guide' (accessed 2026.10.29) · Ministry of Justice 'Residence Civil Service Guide Manual by Status' (as of 2026.11.02)

TOPIK is usually held several times a year (about 6 to 7 times, spread across different months). You register online on the official TOPIK website (topik.go.kr). The exact exam dates and registration periods change every year, so be sure to check the official website for the confirmed schedule.

How to register (usually like this)

  1. Sign up as a member on the official TOPIK website (topik.go.kr).
  2. Choose the exam type (TOPIK I is Levels 1-2, TOPIK II is Levels 3-6), the exam region, and the test center.
  3. Upload your photo and pay the exam fee.
  4. Print or save your admission ticket. On exam day, bring your admission ticket and your ID (Alien Registration Card or passport).

Registration usually opens about 1 to 2 months before the exam. Some test centers have short registration periods and fill up quickly.

⚠️ Things to watch out for

  • EPS-TOPIK is different. The Korean exam for the Employment Permit System (E-9) is run by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (한국산업인력공단). Its registration place and schedule are different from the regular TOPIK. There are eligibility rules, such as being aged 18 to 39. You need at least 80 points out of 200, and applicants are selected starting from the highest scores. The pass is valid for 2 years from the date the results are announced.
  • Check the validity period if you use it for a visa. A TOPIK score is only accepted until the validity period written on the certificate (2 years).
  • It is linked to the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (사회통합프로그램). If you have a valid TOPIK level, you can apply for the linked assessment without taking the preliminary assessment. Level 1 is placed in Stage 2, Level 2 in Stage 3, Level 3 in Stage 4, and Levels 4-6 in Stage 5.

Check exam dates and fees on the official TOPIK website (topik.go.kr). To confirm whether your score is accepted for a visa application, check again at HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or call 1345.
