Social integration (KIIP)

How do I take the KIIP pre-assessment?

Based on: Ministry of Justice (법무부) Social Integration Information Network (Soci-Net) KIIP menu 'KIIP Basic Knowledge Assessment (Pre-, Level, Mid-level, Comprehensive Assessment)' (checked 2026.10.29) · Ministry of Justice 'KIIP Guide' (viewed 2026.10.29) · Ministry of Justice Immigration Integration Division (이민통합과) 'Frequently Asked Questions for KIIP Participants' (2026. 8.) · Ministry of Justice 'Visa Service Guide Manual by Status' (as of 2026.10.19)

The pre-assessment is a written test and an oral test, held at a place designated by your local Immigration Office (출입국·외국인관서). The result decides which level you start at in the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (사회통합프로그램, KIIP).

How the test is organized

  • Who takes it: People who want to join KIIP, and people who want to take the comprehensive assessment for permanent residence applicants.
  • Written test: 50 questions in total (48 multiple-choice, 2 short-answer), 60 minutes. You mark your answers on an OMR card.
  • Oral test: 5 questions in total, 10 minutes. It covers reading, understanding, conversation, and listening and speaking.
  • There is no separate class or textbook. The test checks your usual Korean language and culture skills.

Steps to apply

  1. Sign up as a member on the Social Integration Information Network (사회통합정보망, socinet.go.kr).
  2. Apply for the assessment on the KIIP assessment website (kiiptest.org). Check the schedule and the application period there too.
  3. Take the test on your assigned date. The Gwangmyeong and Daejeon CBT centers hold assessments on set days each week. Results come out in about 2 days on average.
  4. After 16:00 on the result announcement day, check your result under 'My Page' on the Social Integration Information Network, or under 'Score Check' on kiiptest.org.

⚠️ Things to watch out for

  • You must join the education within 2 years from the day you get your level placement. If 2 years pass from the result date with no education or assessment, the result becomes invalid. You then need to get a level placement again.
  • If you take both the CBT and the PBT, your level is set by the test whose announcement date is later.
  • Some people are exempt from the pre-assessment.
  • People who want to start from level 0
  • People with a valid TOPIK level
  • People who passed the mid-level assessment through the linked course
  • Marriage immigrants who prove their Korean language ability and entered Korea with a marriage immigrant visa
  • If you score 85 points or more on the pre-assessment, you can apply for the comprehensive assessment for permanent residence without taking the education. However, this is not recognized as completing KIIP. It is recognized only as meeting the basic knowledge requirement for permanent residence.

The test schedule and application method can change every year. Please check kiiptest.org or call 1345 for the latest information.
