What are the penalties if my attendance rate at the D-4 language institute is low?

Low attendance can limit your stay extension. The standards are overall attendance of 70% and 50%.

• Overall attendance below 70%: The first time, you can get an extension if you submit a statement of reasons. But if your attendance for that term is below 70% again at the next extension, the extension will be restricted.
• Overall attendance below 50%: Immigration sees this as not studying faithfully, and the extension is restricted right away. The only exception is when you have a valid reason, such as hospital treatment after an accident or a delayed entry into Korea because of a natural disaster.

⚠️ Other penalties

• Part-time work: To get part-time work permission on a D-4 visa, your average attendance over all terms must be 90% or higher. If your attendance is low, it is hard to get permission.
• Limits on online and agent applications: If immigration decides it needs to review your case closely, it can block HiKorea online applications or applications through an agent. In this case, you must visit in person.
