Tougher penalties for student illegal work

2026.11.05 · 2 min read · 법무부 보도자료
At a glance
  • Students working in restricted fields
  • In principle removed, even for a first offense
  • Delivery rider crackdowns also increase

1What happened?

On Oct 29, the Ministry of Justice and other agencies met to jointly respond to illegal delivery work and overstaying. The Ministry will strengthen joint crackdowns with the police on illegal delivery riders.

If a student is caught working illegally in restricted fields such as delivery or entertainment, they will in principle be forcibly deported or ordered to leave, regardless of the number of offenses. The penalty standards will be strengthened. The effective date is not stated in the source.

The government will also build an ID verification system for delivery workers and expand investigations into using another person's account and unlicensed driving. Intensive crackdowns will cover 69 areas and workplaces of safety concern, plus joint crackdowns on illegal stay and employment in Jeju.

2How does it affect me?

Students (D-2, etc.) who do unauthorized delivery or entertainment work may face deportation or a departure order even after one catch. Using someone else's delivery account is also a target. Those working only within permitted limits are not much affected.

3What should I do?

  1. 1Do not work in restricted fields such as delivery or entertainment
  2. 2Do not use another person's delivery account
  3. 3Check whether part-time work is allowed on HiKorea or 1345
  4. 4Check the source or 1345 for detailed criteria
