How long can I stay if I enter without a visa?
Based on: Ministry of Justice (법무부) "Visa Service Guide Manual by Status" (as of 2026.10.19) · Ministry of Justice "Stay Service Guide Manual by Status" (as of 2026.11.02) · HiKorea "Immigration/Stay Guide" (last updated 2024)If you enter without a visa (visa waiver), you can stay for the period set in the agreement with your country. It is usually 90 days (or 3 months), but it differs by country. For example, an Uzbekistan diplomatic passport allows 60 days, and a Malaysia regular passport allows 3 months. The standard is the period of stay stamped in your passport when you enter.
⚠️ Points to note
- In principle, people who enter under a visa waiver cannot get an extension of stay or a change of status of stay. If you want to stay longer, you must get a visa before you enter.
- If you want to stay longer than the agreed period, or do paid or for-profit activities such as short-term work, you must enter with the right visa.
- Activities you cannot do differ by country. Some countries exclude work activities. Some countries exclude for-profit activities.
- Visa-free entry for transit through a third country is separate. In this case, you must have a flight ticket to leave within 30 days.
💡 Good to know
If you have an urgent reason and you really need more time, contact the immigration office (출입국) with documents that explain why you need an extension. Approval is not guaranteed.
If you tell me your nationality, I can give more exact information on your agreed period. Please check the exact period once more on HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or the Foreigner Information Center (외국인종합안내센터, 1345).
