What documents can I submit as proof of my residence?

Based on: Ministry of Justice (법무부), "Guide Manual for Stay-Related Civil Services by Visa Status" (as of 2026.11.02) · Seoul Metropolitan Government My Seoul Plus (Seoul Global Center), information by field, "Immigration and Stay > Reporting a Change of Residence" (checked 2026.10.29)

You can submit any document that shows your new address. These include a lease agreement, a housing provision confirmation, a dormitory fee receipt, a utility bill payment receipt, or a notice of visa expiration mailing. These documents show "I live here now" when you register as a foreigner or report a change of residence.

Prepare one of these documents

  • Lease agreement (임대차계약서): If you rented the home yourself, this is the contract you signed with the landlord.
  • Housing provision confirmation (숙소제공 확인서): If your company or an acquaintance provides the home, that person writes it for you.
  • Dormitory fee receipt (기숙사비 영수증): For people who live in a school or company dormitory.
  • Utility bill payment receipt (공공요금 납부영수증): A receipt for electricity, water, gas, etc. issued to your address.
  • Notice of visa expiration mailing (체류기간 만료예고 통지우편물): Mail that the immigration office sent to that address.

What to know when you report

  1. Deadline: Report within 15 days from the day you move to the new address.
  2. Where to report: The immigration office with jurisdiction (Immigration Office, branch or field office), the community center at your new address (행정복지센터), or HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr). Online applications through Government24 (정부24) are only for certain people. The ways you can report may differ depending on your visa status.
  3. What to bring: Your passport or Alien Registration Card, and a residence change report form if needed.
  4. Fee: Reporting a change of residence is free.

⚠️ Be careful

If you do not report within the deadline, you may have to pay a fine. The documents that are accepted may differ a little depending on the office or your visa status. Ask in advance which documents they accept before you go.

Check again with HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or the Korea Immigration Contact Center (외국인종합안내센터, 1345) to be sure.
