Yes, foreigners can also get a fixed date (확정일자) stamp. Just take your lease contract with you. The fixed date is the date that officially proves the lease contract was made on that day.

How to get it

• Lease contract — This is the document that gets the fixed date stamp.
• Alien registration card with your changed address — They check your new address.

1. Go to the registration office or the district welfare center (주민센터).
2. Hand in your contract and alien registration card, and get the fixed date stamp.
3. Check that the contract has the fixed date number and the office's official seal.

If you have a fixed date, it helps you get your deposit back even if the house is sold at auction or for unpaid taxes. To protect your deposit, also do the move-in report (report of change of residence) along with the fixed date. Foreigners must report within 15 days from the day they move to the new address.
