How do I pay an immigration fine, and can I pay in installments?

Based on: Immigration Act (법률 제21857호, in effect 2026.10.2.) · Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Act (대통령령 제36728호, in effect 2026.10.2.) · Hi Korea "Immigration/Stay Guide" (last modified date not confirmed)

You must pay the fine in one payment. You cannot pay in installments. After you receive the fine payment notice (범칙금납부고지서), you must pay within 15 days.

How to pay

  • Bank or post office: Pay at the national treasury bank (including its branches and agencies) or at a post office listed on the notice.
  • Credit or debit card: You can pay by card through a designated payment agency. A payment agency fee may be added. The fee does not exceed 1.5% of the fine.
  • Date of card payment: The payment date is the day the card company approves the payment.
  • Receipt: Keep the receipt you get after paying.

⚠️ If you miss the deadline

If you do not pay within the deadline, the immigration office will report you to the prosecutors' office. Then the case moves to the regular criminal process. If you pay before being reported, you will not be reported. If you pay the notified amount, you will not be punished again for the same case.

💡 Good to know

When the fine is set, the office considers your age, your circumstances, the reason for and result of the violation, your ability to pay, and the number of violations. So the fine can be reduced or increased within one half of the standard amount. If your situation is difficult, the notified disposition itself may be waived. But there is no guarantee of a waiver or reduction. If you cannot afford to pay, or you worry about the effect on your stay extension, get a consultation with the K-VISA AI administrative agent (the visa service in the app).

Check the payment place and amount on the notice first. If you have questions, ask the immigration office that sent the notice or the Foreigner Comprehensive Guidance Center (외국인종합안내센터) at 1345.
