How do I get a mobile Alien Registration Card?

Mobile Alien Registration Card: Any registered foreigner aged 14 or older who has a smartphone in their own name can get one. The method depends on whether your Alien Registration Card is an IC chip card.

Check these conditions first

• You must have completed alien registration.
• The smartphone must be in your own name. It can be issued to only 1 device per person.
• You must be 14 or older.
• You need your passport or Alien Registration Card.

How to get it

1. If you have an Alien Registration Card with an IC chip (issue it yourself)

• Install the 'Mobile ID of the Republic of Korea' (대한민국 모바일 신분증) app.
• In the app, tap your Alien Registration Card on the back of your smartphone. It is issued right away.

2. If you have a regular Alien Registration Card without an IC chip (visit Immigration)

• Go to the immigration office (출입국·외국인관서) that covers where you live.
• There, scan a QR code to get it issued.

💡 Good to know

• It is an ID with the same legal effect as the physical Alien Registration Card.
• It is valid until your period of stay expires. If you extend your stay, a new card is issued, so you may need to get the mobile card again.
• If you change or lose your phone, get it reissued. With an IC card, do it yourself in the app. With a regular card, make a visit reservation on HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) and then go to Immigration.
• Some banks (Shinhan, Hana, iM Bank, Busan, Jeonbuk, Jeju) let you open an account at the counter with the mobile card. Only Jeonbuk Bank allows it non-face-to-face. Bank policies may change, so check with the bank before you visit.
