I lost my Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증). How do I get it reissued and how long does it take?

If you lose your Alien Registration Card (외국인등록증), apply for a reissue at the Immigration Office or branch office (출입국·외국인관서; 출입국관리사무소·출장소) with jurisdiction over your place of residence. Loss is a valid reason for reissue.

Reissue procedure

1. Make a visit reservation through HiKorea (하이코리아) or similar. You can reserve up to 1 day before the day you want your card reissued.
2. On your reserved day, visit the Immigration Office or branch office with jurisdiction and apply.¹
3. After you apply, you receive the result. If it is not processed on the same day, you can check the status in the civil application status page.¹

What to bring

• Passport¹
• 1 photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm)¹
• Fee: 35,000 won¹
• If you lost the card, you do not need to submit the old Alien Registration Card.¹
• Some people are exempt from the fee (for example, corporate investment D-8 status of stay).¹

How long it takes

• In principle, it is processed immediately. However, because many people visit, it is currently said to take about 2 to 3 weeks.
• It can differ by office, so it is best to check when you make your reservation.

• When your card is reissued, your previous Alien Registration Number stays the same.⁴
