‹ Korea Visa & Stay Q&A for Foreigners
How do I get a Certificate of Income Amount (소득금액증명원)?
Based on: Ministry of Justice, 「Residence Civil Service Guide Manual by Status」 (as of 2026.11.02) · K-visa practical reference 「Residence Practice Guidelines」 (as of 2023.7.)You can get the Certificate of Income Amount (소득금액증명원) at the civil service office of a tax office (세무서 민원실) or on Hometax (홈택스, hometax.go.kr). For a visa extension or change, you usually need "the last 2 years." So check the issue year first.
How to get it
1. Online at Hometax (hometax.go.kr)
- Log in with a joint certificate, simple authentication, or similar.
- In "Certificates, Registration, Application," choose "Certificate of Income Amount."
- Choose the purpose (for submission to immigration) and where you will submit it, then apply. You can print it right away.
- Foreigners can also use it if they have a record of filing taxes in Korea and have an authentication method. If authentication is hard, visiting a tax office is easier.
2. Visit a tax office
- Go to the civil service office of a nearby tax office.
- Verify your identity with your passport or Alien Registration Card.
- Fill out the application form. You can usually get it right away.
💡 Good to know
- The Certificate of Income Amount shows only income for years when the tax filing is complete. Usually, last year's income is issued after your company does the year-end tax settlement, or after you file the comprehensive income tax return in May.
- If it is not issued yet, the immigration manual says to submit all of the following documents. They are the withholding tax receipt for earned income, proof of the account where the income was deposited, and a pledge from the business owner (employer) and the applicant (Form 2).
- For Skilled Worker (E-7-4) and similar visas, immigration looks at "average income for the last 2 years" to check income. It is based on annual income (January 1 to December 31) for the most recent 2 years for which a Certificate of Income Amount can be issued.
- I am not sure about the fee and detailed steps. Check with the tax office or the National Tax Service helpline (126).
If it cannot be issued or your income type is complex, check once more which documents you need at HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or 1345 before you submit to immigration.
