How is the score calculated for the F-2-7 points-based residence visa?
Based on: Ministry of Justice (법무부) "Guide Manual by Status for Stay Applications (체류민원 자격별 안내 매뉴얼)" (as of 2026.11.02) · Ministry of Justice "Guide Manual by Status for Visa Applications (사증민원 자격별 안내 매뉴얼)" (as of 2026.10.19)For the F-2-7 points-based residence visa, your total score across all evaluation items must be 80 points or more. Your annual income must also be at least the previous year's Gross National Income (GNI) per person.
How the score is calculated
You fill out a score sheet and submit it with documents that prove your score for each evaluation item. Each item has a different score, and the total must be above 80 points. The detailed points for each item (age, education, income, Korean language, etc.) could not be confirmed in the materials I have. To check your exact score, use the points-based evaluation table on HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr).
Documents that prove your score
- Score sheet — the applicant writes in their own score
- Documents proving the score for each evaluation item — each point must be proven
- Certificate of income amount (소득금액증명) — issued by the tax office within 2 years of the application date, based on the most recent year
- Employment contract, certificate of employment, degree certificate, etc. — only for those they apply to
- Proof of residence in Korea
- Any additional documents requested by the examiner
Prepare the basic documents (application form, passport, registration card, fee) separately.
💡 Good to know
- If you work for a listed company (KOSPI/KOSDAQ) and cannot submit a certificate of income amount, your income is calculated from the annual salary in your employment contract.
- Workers in promising industries must have had a previous-year income of at least 1.5 times the GNI per person.
- If you have not been overseas continuously for 6 months or more since getting your points-based residence status, you can skip the overseas criminal record certificate when you extend.
- If you are unemployed or earn less than the minimum wage when you extend, you can get up to 2 extensions of 6 months each. If your income is still too low at the 3rd extension, you can change to job seeking (D-10, up to 1 year).
If you are not sure whether you are close to 80 points, check your score sheet with K-VISA AI Administrative Agent consultation (Visa Service in the app). For final confirmation, contact HiKorea or the Foreigner Comprehensive Information Center (외국인종합안내센터) at 1345.
