‹ F-6 Marriage migrant visa guide
What can and can't I do with an F-6 marriage immigrant visa?
Based on: Ministry of Justice (법무부), 「Residence Civil Affairs Manual by Status (체류민원 자격별 안내 매뉴얼)」 (as of 2026.10.19)✅ What you can do
- You can work freely in most cases. The Marriage Immigrant (F-6) status has no work restrictions based on status.1
- You don't need separate permission to change or add a workplace. The permission process for changing or adding a workplace does not apply to F-6.1
- You can generally do part-time jobs, work at a company, or run your own business. However, for jobs that require a license or certificate, you must meet the same requirements as Korean citizens.
- You can receive a stay period of up to 3 years at a time.1
❌ What you can't do
- Things banned by law: Activities banned for everyone, such as working at an illegal business, are also banned for F-6.
- Keeping your status without a real married life: F-6-1 is a status for people who continue their married life with a Korean citizen.1 A sham marriage or false documents can lead to criminal punishment and cancellation of your status.
- Missing reports and extensions: In general, you must report a change of address when you move, and report it when your passport changes. You must also apply for an extension before your stay period ends. Be sure to check the reporting deadlines on HiKorea (하이코리아).
⚠️ If your marital situation changes
If the marriage ends, for example through divorce or the death of your spouse, you may not be able to keep your current status. Depending on the situation, there are other detailed statuses.1
- If you are raising a minor child you had with a Korean spouse: Child Rearing (자녀양육) (F-6-2)
- If the marriage ended through no fault of your own: Marriage Breakdown (혼인단절) (F-6-3)
In these cases, the result can differ greatly depending on your personal situation. Please get a consultation with the K-VISA AI administrative agent in the Visa Service in the app. For final confirmation, please check HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or call the Foreigner Comprehensive Information Center (외국인종합안내센터) (1345).
