‹ F-5 Permanent resident visa guide
When and how do I reissue (renew) my F-5 permanent resident card?
Based on: K-Visa practical reference material 「Guidelines for Stay Practice (체류 실무지침)」 (as of 2023.7.) · Government24 (정부24) civil service guides 「Alien Registration (외국인등록)」, 「Reissuance of Alien Registration Card (외국인 등록증 재발급)」 (last updated 2026.7.27.), 「Application for Certificate of Visa Issuance Confirmation (사증발급인정서발급신청)」, 「Extension of Stay Permit (체류기간연장허가)」, 「Certificate of Alien Registration Facts (외국인등록 사실증명)」 (checked 2026.10.30)The permanent resident card is a card with an expiration date, so you need to get it reissued (renewed) regularly. Your permanent resident status itself stays the same.
📅 When do I reissue it?
- If 10 years have not yet passed since you got permanent resident status, you must apply within 2 years after the 10-year date.1
- You can also get it reissued before 10 years have passed if you want. In this case, the new card is valid for 10 years from the issue date.1
- Loss, damage, running out of space to write, and reporting a change of name, date of birth, or nationality are also reasons for reissue.3
📝 How do I do it?
- Make a visit reservation on HiKorea (하이코리아, hikorea.go.kr) or Government24 (정부24). You can reserve up to 1 day before the day you want to get the card reissued.3
- On the reserved day, go to the Immigration Office (출입국·외국인관서) in charge of your area and apply.
- During the review, they update your address and passport changes, and check whether there is any reason to cancel your permanent resident status for violating the law.1
📄 What to bring and the fee
- Passport, 1 photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm), your existing permanent resident card (not needed if you lost it)3
- The fee is different depending on the source. Older sources say 3만원 (KRW 30,000), and the recent Government24 guide (updated 2026.7.27.) says 3만 5천원 (KRW 35,000). If you follow the latest standard, it is 3만 5천원.23
- Many people visit, so processing can take about 2 to 3 weeks.3
⚠️ Things to be careful about
- If you do not re-enter Korea within the re-entry permit exemption period (2 years from the day you left), you may lose your permanent resident status.1
- Documents and fees can change. Before you visit, be sure to check HiKorea or the Foreigner Information Center (외국인종합안내센터, 1345).
