‹ D-10 Job seeking visa guide
When can I apply to extend my D-10 (job-seeking) stay period, and what documents do I need?
Based on: HiKorea (하이코리아) 「Immigration/Stay Guide」 (revision date not confirmed) · K-VISA (케이비자) practice reference material 「Stay Practice Guidelines」 (as of July 2023)Conclusion: You can apply from 4 months before your stay period ends until the day it ends. You apply at the Immigration Office (출입국·외국인관서) that has authority over your address1.
When and How to Apply
- Application period: From 4 months before your stay period expires until the day of expiry1.
- If you apply late: If you apply after the expiry date, a fine will be charged1.
- Who can apply: You or your agent can apply. However, you must be in Korea on the day of application. You cannot apply from overseas1.
- Period granted at one time: Generally up to 6 months at a time. Advanced Technology Intern (D-10-3) can receive up to 1 year, but it cannot be longer than the internship contract period2.
Documents to Submit
- The list of D-10 extension documents is set for each status. You are told to check the 'Manual by Stay Status' on HiKorea (하이코리아)1.
- Generally, you submit the application form, passport, Alien Registration Card, fee, and proof of residence. Many people also add materials showing why you need to keep seeking a job or preparing a business.
- However, the exact list of documents that must be submitted for a D-10 extension was not confirmed in the reference materials. Please be sure to check with HiKorea or 1345 before applying.
⚠️ Points to Note
- Permission may be limited in the following cases. You received a departure order within the last 3 years, or your total fines (including notice-based penalties) exceed 2,000,000 won. It also includes cases where you apply for a D-10 change 3 or more times within 3 years without fully leaving Korea2.
- These criteria are from the 2023 practice guidelines. They may have changed since then.
- There is no guarantee that an extension will be approved. For final confirmation, check HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) or the Foreign Resident Helpline (외국인종합안내센터, 1345).
- If your stay period has already passed or you were refused, get a consultation from the K-VISA AI Administrative Agent (K-VISA AI 행정사) (the visa service in the app).
